Clues

Foundations TV Flyer

Clue 1

This looks like a checklist for applying to the show Foundations. Why not see if you meet the criteria?

Clue 2

Each piece of criteria seems to link to something else in the game. Have you spotted any items that match? For example, “Colour scheme: Available to review…” could relate to the colour swatch booklet.

Reveal The Answer

Match each item from the checklist to a puzzle to work out the correct order of play.

Colour Swatch

Clue 1

There are two separate pieces in this puzzle, both created by the company Drench. Make sure you’re using them together.

Reveal The Answer

You will need both the bedroom illustration and this colour swatch booklet to complete the puzzle. (For the full solution, see the answer under the bedroom illustration clue.)

Bedroom Illustration

Clue 1

The notes around the bedroom are more helpful than they first appear. Some of them are telling you exactly what to do.

Clue 2

Notice how the bedroom illustration and the colour swatch booklet are both made by the same company, Drench? Use the booklet and the illustration together.

Clue 3

Match the colours in the booklet to those in the illustration, and make sure you follow the instructions given in the notes!

Reveal The Answer

Look at all the notes written on the bedroom illustration, as some of them are instructions you need to follow. Use both the paint swatch booklet and the bedroom illustration to solve the puzzle. First, match the pink wall colour to the same shade in the paint swatch booklet - it matches One Orchard Pink. The notes say the clients want it three shades lighter, which takes you to Petal Four. Next, they want the radiator green to match the rug. Match the green on the rug to the correct shade in the booklet - it is Tenfold Forest. The notes then tell you to make it more intense and two shades darker, which leads you to Times Nine Leaves. Put these final colour names together: Petal Four Times Nine Leaves. This gives you 4 × 9 = 36. The answer is 36.

Clue 1

Pay close attention to how Sophia’s lines are written. Something about them stands out.

Clue 2

Look at the last word of each of Sophia’s lines. When you put them together, they give you an instruction.

Clue 3

Follow that instruction carefully. It will lead you to specific words in Reid’s lines, which reveal the final answer.

Reveal The Answer

The last word of each of Sophia’s lines is written in italics, so start by collecting those words and reading them together. They form the instruction “Read Reid’s third words.” Next, go through each of Reid’s lines and take the third word from each one. When you put these words together, they spell “forty add two.” This gives you the final answer, which is 42.

Tape Measure

Clue 1

Read through the writing on the tape measure. Does it link to another piece?

Reveal The Answer

You will also need the Handyman advert to solve this puzzle.

Handyman Advert

Clue 1

This puzzle needs two separate pieces to work together: the Handyman ad and the tape measure.

Clue 2

The coloured markings on both the Handyman advert and the tape measure are the key.

Clue 3

Try wrapping the tape measure around the Handyman ad so that it sits neatly in the grooves and the matching coloured lines line up.

Reveal The Answer

To solve this puzzle, you need to use the Timberland Carpentry ad and the tape measure together. Notice that both the Handyman ad and the tape measure have coloured markings. On the Handyman ad for Timberland Carpentry, there is first a pair of purple dashed lines, followed by red dashed lines below. Look for matching markings on the tape measure. Start with the word “Define” on the tape measure, as it has the same purple markings as the first groove on the Handyman ad. Insert the tape measure into the top groove and align the purple lines. There is also a blue centre line running down the Handyman ad, and for this first word on the tape measure, there is a blue line showing exactly where it should be aligned. Then wrap the tape measure around until the remaining red lines on the tape measure line up with the red lines on the Handyman ad. Once everything is correctly aligned, read the letters vertically along that line - they spell FOUR. The answer is 4.

Catalogue

Clue 1

You will need more than just the catalogue to solve this puzzle!

Reveal The Answer

Find the Interiors Mok-Up video email and use it together with the catalogue to solve the puzzle. (For the full answer explanation, see the email clues.)

Interiors Mok-Up Video Email

Clue 1

What does the QR code open?

Clue 2

Look through the catalogue and compare the items to what you see in the video. Are there any pieces of furniture in the catalogue that match the ones shown in the house-tour video?

Clue 3

Eliot is very unhappy with the total price. Read back through the email - he was clear about what the original budget was.

Reveal The Answer

You will need both the Nori Design House catalogue and the email to solve this puzzle. Scan the QR code to view the house tour video. Watch the video carefully and compare any chairs you see with those shown in the catalogue. Add up the prices of all the chairs from the video that match those in the catalogue. The matching chairs are: the Cassian Deep Seat, the Solenne Wingback, and the Atelier Swivel Chair. When you total these, £800 + £900 + £300, the cost comes to £2,000. In the email, Eliot says he’s unhappy with this price and wants the cost per chair to be 100 times cheaper. To work this out, divide £2,000 by 100. The final price is £20.

Invoice

Clue 1

Codes are for cracking!

Clue 2

In the code, look at each letter’s position in the alphabet, then compare it to the number beside it. What has been done to each one?

Clue 3

Once you know the rule, use it to turn the invoice number, account number, and sort code back into letters. The message will tell you exactly where to look for the answer.

Reveal The Answer

In the code column, you are given examples such as C06, H11, Z03, D07, and P19. These show that each letter has been turned into a number by taking its position in the alphabet and adding 3. For example, C is the 3rd letter of the alphabet, so 3 + 3 = 6, and H is the 8th letter, so 8 + 3 = 11. Once you understand this rule, use it to translate the invoice number, account number, and sort code back into letters. When decoded, they spell “Price of item one.” Then look at the table for the price of item one, which is 67. The answer is 67.

Architects Sketch

Clue 1

There are multiple drawings in this puzzle. They are designed to be used together, not separately.

Clue 2

Try layering the drawings on top of each other. Look for shapes that help you line them up correctly.

Clue 3

Once all three drawings are aligned, identify the reinforced steel beams using the key.

Reveal The Answer

There are three drawings: one on normal paper and two on tracing paper. Drawing 1 is the bottom layer (on paper), drawing 2 is the middle layer (on tracing paper), and drawing 3 is the top layer (on tracing paper), which includes notes from a meeting with the structural engineer. To solve the puzzle, first layer the drawings correctly. Start with drawing 1 as the base and notice the two circles underneath the building sketch. Then take drawing 2, find the two matching circles, and place it on top, aligning them exactly. Next, look at drawing 2 and find the two squares. Take drawing 3 and layer it on top of drawing 2, matching the squares on both layers. When all three drawings are correctly aligned, they reveal a complete sketch of the front of the house. Using the key, identify the reinforced steel beams, which are shown as rectangles with diagonal lines. Add their lengths together: 2.8m + 5.2m + 5.7m + 6.3m + 6m = 26m. The answer is 26.

Floor Plan

Clue 1

I think the design of the den still needs a little work.

Clue 2

Use the legend to identify which room is the den on the floor plan, then read the designer’s notes carefully to work out which furniture needs to be moved.

Clue 3

Move the correct pieces of furniture into the den exactly as the couple wants them, using the grid squares to help with placement.

Reveal The Answer

Use the legend to work out which room is the den on the floor plan, then read through the client feedback to identify which pieces of furniture need to be moved. Place those specific items into the den exactly as the couple wants them, using the grid squares to help you position everything correctly. Once all the furniture is in the right place, the gaps between the furniture will form the number 82. The answer is 82.

The Daily Watch Article

Clue 1

All company emails normally follow the same format. Have you noticed that Daniel works in the creative department (CD)?

Clue 2

Daniel’s email follows the same pattern as the others: first name, first letter of surname, and first letters of department.

Clue 3

Once you’ve worked out Daniel’s email address (daniel.r.cd@foundationstv.uk), send an email to it. The reply contains the final step - make sure to check your spam! The black circles pick out letters that reveal the answer.

Reveal The Answer

Use the other email addresses shown in the article to work out Daniel Reid’s email address. The format is (name).(first letter of surname).(first letters of department name)@foundationstv.uk. From the article, you know his name is Daniel Reid and that he works in the Creative Department, so his email address is daniel.r.cd@foundationstv.uk. Email this address. The reply is the same email shown in the article, but with all the letters and numbers replaced by circles. The black circles highlight specific letters from Claudia’s email, which spell eighty-seven. The answer is 87.

House Build

Clue 1

Pop out all the house pieces from the sheet!

Clue 2

These are all pieces of a house. How does it fit together? The coloured tabs are there to guide you.

Clue 3

Have a look through the windows with the flower boxes underneath. The flower colours also tell you the order to read the numbers.

Reveal The Answer

Pop out all the house pieces from the sheet and build the house by slotting each coloured tab into the slit of the same colour. The coloured tabs are there to guide you and show how the house fits together. Once the house is built, look through the window with the blue flowers underneath and you will see the number 4. Then look through the window with the pink flowers underneath and you will see the number 7. Finally, look above the Eco Homes logo, where there is a blue flower followed by a pink flower. This shows you the order to read the numbers: blue first, then pink. The answer is 47.
