Clues
The Merry Mug
Clue 1
Take a closer look at the Christmas wreath. The symbols around the edge aren’t just decorative; they match the flavour notes on the menu. Even the letters have been carefully placed.
Clue 2
In ‘Our Favourites’, two drinks are marked out: I) Alpine Spice and T) Merry Maker. Curious that they’re labelled I and T, not A and B … Perhaps those letters are trying to tell you something.
Clue 3
Use the flavour notes from Alpine Spice and Merry Maker as your guide. Find their symbols on the wreath and draw a line from each symbol to each drink’s letter. Watch closely - a pattern will begin to appear.
Clue 4
Curious there is also a receipt from the Merry Mug. Try using the method you used for Alpine Spice and the Merry Maker for the drinks orders on this receipt.
Reveal The Answer
Look at the Christmas Wreath. Around the wreath are the flavour note symbols used in the mulled wine drinks menu. There are also letters dotted around the wreath. The Christmas Wreath works as a cypher. You are given two examples of how the cypher works under the ‘Our Favourites’ part of the menu. I) Alpine Spice and T) Merry Maker. Use the menu to identify the flavour note symbols that make up Alpine spice. Find those symbols on the wreath. From each of those symbols, draw a straight line to the letter I inside the wreath. Now repeat this process for the Merry Maker. This will show you the pattern of how to solve the cypher: Each drink is solved using its flavour note symbols. Each flavour symbol is connected by a straight line to the drink’s letter. This forms two sides of an isosceles triangle. Now you’re ready to decode the rest. Use the receipt and work through the drinks in order. For each drink: Identify its flavour note symbols from the menu, find those symbols on the wreath and use the same isosceles triangle pattern you discovered with Alpine Spice and Merry Maker. The point where the triangle leads will give you one letter. The letters spell : SEVEN ONE. The answer is 71.
Receipt
Clue 1

Gingerbread Competition
Clue 1
The gingerbread winners from past years are on the back of the flyer! They’ve been baked in pairs; take a close look and work out what each gingerbread creation is meant to be.
Clue 2
Their names are almost the same, with just one tiny letter different in each pair … see if you can spot the odd letter out every time.
Clue 3
Bring together the different letter from each gingerbread pair. They’ll reveal a Christmassy word - now see how many of those are hiding on the flyer.
Reveal The Answer
Work out the names of each gingerbread deign. In every pair, the two names are almost identical; they differ by just one letter. Take the letter that changes in each pair: Tree / Trees (S), Train / Rain (T), Peas / Pears (R), Park / Spark (S), Past / Pasta (A). These letters spell STARS. Now follow that instruction: Look through the flyer and count all the starts. There are a total of 16 stars. The answer is 16.
Baubles Flyer
Clue 1
The front of the flyer shows a handful of beautifully decorated baubles. Turn the flyer over - you’ll find many more babies waiting to be coloured in.
Clue 2
Some baubles on the front look familiar… Can you find their matching designs on the back and work out which parts need colouring?
Clue 3
The paintbrush is pointing the way. Transfer the blue details from the front of the baubles onto their matching designs on the back and see what appears.
Reveal The Answer
On the front of the flyer, you’ll see a selection of decorated Christmas baubles. Turn the flyer over, and you’ll find a large pattern of baubles with the message: “Colour in your ornaments”, framed by two paintbrushes dipped in blue paint. The decorated baubles shown on the front also appear in the pattern on the back. Match each bauble design from the front to the same design on the back. On the front, notice which parts of each bauble are filled in with the same blue colour as the paintbrushes. For every matching bauble on the back, colour in only those sections that are highlighted. Once all the correct sections are filled in, the blue areas form a number. The answer is 34.
Christmas Postcard
Clue 1
The key to the puzzle is hiding in plain sight - start with the words “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
Clue 2
Those words are more than just a greeting. Look closely at the letters themselves. Their designs have been chosen carefully.
Clue 3
Some of the letter designs reappear in the illustration on the front. Find each one, count how many times it appears, and match it to the letters to reveal the final answer.
Reveal The Answer
Turn the postcard over and look at where “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” is written. Each letter isn’t just text; it has been designed to look like a Christmas item. Some of these festive letter designs are hidden in the illustration on the front of the postcard. Hunt through the illustration on the front to find those items. Record what festive letter designs you spot in the illustration and how many times they each appear. What to find: North Pole Signpost (This is the letter T and appears twice), Holly leaves shaped like W (This is the letter W), Christmas hat which matches the one on the letter E (This is the letter E), Candles shaped like the letter N (This is the letter N), Candy canes in the shape of a Y ( This is the letter Y). This spells out TWENTY. The answer is 20.
The Winter Market Map
Clue 1
Read through “Winter Market Highlights: The Unofficial Guide”. It really is the best way to see the Market.
Clue 2
Use the guide to draw a route on the map. Make sure to pay attention you’re passing the correct stalls in the right order!
Clue 3
When the full route is drawn, it should create an image. Can you match this image to any of symbol in the key?
Reveal The Answer
Read the ‘Winter Market Highlights: The Unofficial Guide’ and follow the route it describes around the market carefully checking that you are passing the correct stalls. Draw that exact route onto the map, making sure to follow the final note in the guide: you may only walk in the pink areas and should try to stick close to the edges of the market stalls. When you finish, the route will create a drawing of a rocking horse. Look in the key on the left-hand side of the map for the rocking horse symbol, which corresponds to number 4 (The Clockwork Carver). The answer is 4.
