Police have arrested four individuals following a dramatic Christmas Eve siege at Ahrum House Auctioneers, after an emergency override code was used to regain control of the building.

Investigators have confirmed that the operation was orchestrated by former Security Systems Manager Daniel Mercer, who used his insider knowledge of the building’s security infrastructure to help a team of criminals gain access to the premises.

Mercer allegedly worked alongside known associates Rebecca Holt, Marcus Kane and Lewis Fletcher to carry out the attempted theft.

No items were stolen and no staff were injured.

Police believe the group intended to access the secure vault and escape via a helicopter waiting nearby. However, the emergency override restored access to the building, allowing officers to enter and arrest the suspects before they could leave the scene.

The following evening, Ahrum House proceeded with its annual Candlelight Auction. Guests enjoyed an evening of rare jewellery, exceptional artefacts and festive celebrations in what many described as the most memorable auction in the company’s history.

Auction house owner Arthur Harrington thanked those involved in helping recover the override code, saying: “Christmas was nearly ruined for everyone. Thankfully, we got a second chance.”

The Candlelight Auction raised a record amount for charity and brought a dramatic end to an unforgettable Christmas Eve.
